Photos are too big for backup files. To keep one somewhere else too, open it and tap “Save original”, or choose several with “Select”.

Back up your data

A backup is a file with everything Photos saves. Lock it with a passphrase so only you can open it.

Keep the passphrase somewhere safe, like a password manager. Without it the backup can’t be opened, not even by us.

At least 12 characters. A few random words work well.

Or download a plain copy without a passphrase. Anyone who gets that file can read it.
